Welcome to Prof. Mukesh Kumar Research Group

Prof. Mukesh Kumar Research Group in the Department of Physics at the Indian Institute of Technology Ropar focuses on the synthesis, characterization, and physical understanding of advanced functional materials for optoelectronic, photovoltaic, and defense applications.

Our group leads cutting-edge research in thin-film solar cells, wide bandgap oxide semiconductor nanostructures (such as gallium oxide), and two-dimensional (2D) heterostructures (like PtS2, PtSe2, and MoS2) for high-performance, broadband, and solar-blind photodetectors. We specialize in interface engineering, atomic-scale charge transport, defect passivation, and device design to overcome the physics-based efficiency barriers of next-generation optoelectronic technologies.

By leveraging specialised experimental setups-including physical vapour deposition systems, chemical syntheses, scanning probe microscopy (SPM) for nanoscale charge mapping, and temperature-dependent electrical characterisation suites-we establish deep correlations between materials processing, nanoscale physics, and macroscopic device performance.
