Seminar in SMMEE: Robotics Competition Knowledge Based Education in Engineering
Title : RoCK-BEE: Robotics Competition Knowledge Based Education in Engineering
Speaker : Prof. S. K. Saha
Location: L3
Date : 22-Mar-2013 (Fri)
Time : 3:30pm
Abstract:
In recent times, the Government of India has emphasized the skill development of young peopleof the country, including the engineers. This is mainly due to the fact that, as per the BPO Watch IndiaBureau reported in April 07, 2011, “... of the graduates working in IT, only 25 per cent can be readilyemployed.”\
As a solution to the above issue, the speaker has been pursuing the following for last 10 years:
Since the word “robot” attracts the young students, they are encouraged to design, fabricate, program, test, etc. to perform certain tasks, e.g., a robot as per the rules of a game, say, Robocon (organizedby Doordarshan in Pune every year). Such exposure requires a variety of subjects, e.g., mechanical, electrical, computer science, IT, etc., to be assimilated for the successful development of a product (inthis case a robot). This is actually the objective of any technical education, which the speaker wanted tospread through the concept of RoCK-BEE. The concept was presented by the speaker in various places ofIndia and abroad (Europe, USA, Mexico and Japan) through a special lecture series, which was alreadydelivered 49 times. Moreover, a fiction book in the name of RoCK-BEE was also published by pothi.comto share the thoughts amongst the students. The book is available through on-line stores like flipkart.com,infibeam.com, etc.
The present one will be Golden Jubilee lecture of the RoCK-BEE series.
