Title: Innovation in Emerging Markets and Challenges of Network Governance

Abstract:

Emerging markets are high growth countries with large populations but with poor industrialization and infrastructure and most of these countries including India, China, Russia etc are protected economies for centuries. Innovations that create block buster industries of product or services (cell phones or houses or nutritious food or automobiles) that are affordable and accessible to the populations are important in these economies. Production and distribution of such products creates networks of independent companies.  Governance of these networks is an important issue to create efficient and effective outcomes. In this lecture we address the governance issues (partner selection, coordination and Executiomn) in large
networks and present two network examples for creating food security and orchestrating SMEs into the Global value chain using IT and Cloud computing.

 

About The Speaker:

N. Viswanadham is INAE distinguished professor in the Computer Science and Automation at the Indian Institute of Science. He has held several prestigious positions before joining IISc. N. Viswanadham was Professor and Executive Director for The Center of Excellence Global logistics and manufacturing strategies in the Indian school Of Business,Hyderabad, India during 2006-2011. He was Deputy Executive Director of The Logistics Institute-Asia Pacific and also Professor in Department of Mechanical and Production Engineering at the National University of Singapore during 1998-2005; before 1998, he was Tata Chemicals Chair Professor at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore.

He is the recipient of the 1996 IISc Alumni award for excellence in research. He was conferred the Distinguished Alumni Award in the year 2009 by the Council of the Indian Institute of Science. He was awarded the 2012 Prof S K Mitra Memorial Award by the Indian National Academy of Engineering.

N. Viswanadham is a Fellow of the IEEE, a Fellow of Indian National Science Academy, Indian Academy of Sciences,Indian National Academy of Engineering, and Third World Academy of Sciences.

Professor Viswanadham has made significant contributions to the areas of manufacturing, logistics and global supply chain networks. He is the author of Five textbooks, Nine edited volumes, over two hundred journal and top tier conference papers. He has written several thought leadership papers on logistics, manufacturing, services in India, some of them are sponsored by CII and FICCI and most of them are published by industry magazines. His new book to be released by World Scientific this year on Ecosystem Aware Global Supply Chain Management addresses path breaking methodologies for redesign of global supply chains integrating performance, risk, innovation and coordination and execution.
His current research efforts are on Global supply/service chain networks, Green supply chain design, Food security in India and Smart village development.
