About the speaker

Professor G. Narahari Sastry has obtained Ph.D. from University of Hyderabad under the guidance of Professor E.D. Jemmis. After a couple of post‐doctoral experiences with Professor Sason Shaik (Hebrew Univ., Jerusalem) and Professor Thomas Bally (Univ. of Fribourg, Switzerland), he started his independent research career in 1997 in Pondicherry University. In 2002, he moved to IICT, Hyderabad to head the molecular modelling group. Dr. Sastry’s research interests are computational chemistry and computational biology. He has made pioneering contributions in the fields of non‐bonded interactions, bucky bowl chemistry, hetero‐aromaticity, designing structures defying conventional bonding patterns, pericyclic reactions, biomolecular modeling and computer aided drug design.

Dr. Sastry has been awarded with prestigious Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize, jointly, in Chemical Sciences (2011), CRSI Medal 2009, National Bioscience award 2009 (DBT), Swarnajayanthi Fellowship 2005 (DST), B.M. Birla Scientist award 2001, B.C. Deb memorial award (Indian Science Congress) 2008, and Alexander von Humboldt fellowship 2006.
