Abstract:

In the lecture, I will address some critical facets of an electrokinetic phenomenon termed as isotachophoresis (ITP). The resolution of the narrow zones involving steep gradients in the electric field and the concentration is a challenge in numerical computation of ITP and has several technical applications. Based on finite volume method the computer model is developed to solve the mass and charge conservation equations. The present numerical  algorithm for solving the twodimensional ITP transport of ions  can effectively simulate ITP with imposed convection. In practical situation, convection of ions may arise due to unwanted pressure gradient  and/or electroosmotic transport of ions. The dispersion of the transition zone between two adjacent electrolytes is estimated through the second-order moment analysis. The most important dependencies of the  width of the area-averaged sample distribution on the dimensionless parameters governing the problem are shown extensively when ITP is interacted with convection effect due to   a Poiseuille counterow. The dispersion of sample species is measured through the second and third-order moments of the analytes distribution.
