Seminar Title : Functional Organics via Covalent and Non-Covalent Approaches
Speaker : Dr. Venkatakrishnan, P.
Venue : L3
Date & Time : 01 August, 2012: 3.00 pm - 4:00 pm
Abstract:- In recent years, functional organic molecules have captured great attention, and are increasingly finding applications in various fields; for example, organic light emitting diodes and solar cells are a huge commercial enterprise. The reasons for interest in organic materials are (i) their flexibility in terms of physical, chemical and optoelectronic properties, and (ii) ease of synthesis and processability as compared to their inorganic counter parts. While synthesis (covalent approach) offers handle to tune the functional properties of a molecule, self-assembly (by means of non-covalent interactions) in solution offers a “bottom-up” approach to achieve spontaneous formation of well-defined (nano)structures for better processability and device fabrication. This talk would portray engineering efficient organic (photonic, electronic and energy) materials, and the importance of ordering in solution for device purposes.
