Message from the Head of Department

The Department of Physics at the Indian Institute of Technology Ropar is dedicated to excellence in teaching and research, with a focus on advancing fundamental science and fostering technological innovation. Established in 2009, the department has developed into a dynamic academic unit supporting both experimental and theoretical research, along with interdisciplinary studies. The department offers undergraduate, M.Sc., and Ph.D. programs designed to cultivate analytical thinking, scientific curiosity, and research skills. Faculty members are actively engaged in diverse areas such as Condensed Matter Physics & Material Science, Gravity & String Theory, Light-Matter Interaction & Quantum Information, Nuclear & Particle Physics supported by modern research facilities and collaborations. With a strong emphasis on impactful research and innovation, the department continues to expand its contributions to frontier areas of science.
