The Department has been offering a two-year M.Sc. Physics programme since 2015, with admissions through the Joint Admission Test for M.Sc. (JAM). The programme has grown steadily, with a regular intake of 25 students. It is designed as a research-intensive programme, comprising core courses, advanced electives, open electives from other departments based on student requirements, and a one-year research project. The curriculum emphasizes hands-on training using advanced research facilities, encouraging independent work and the development of strong analytical and technical skills.
The programme provides a vibrant research environment that prepares students for diverse career paths. Several M.Sc. dissertations have resulted in high-quality research publications in international journals. Graduates pursue Ph.D. studies in reputed institutions in India and abroad or join organizations such as DAE, ISRO, DRDO, IUAC, and industries involving semiconductors, lasers, and vacuum technology. Students also have the option to continue into the Department’s Ph.D. programme, subject to eligibility, making it a strong foundation for both research and professional careers.
