Shiksha

Why Shiksha?

Education is an important tool that is applied in the contemporary world to succeed, as it mitigates the challenges which are faced in life. The constitution of India, written over 65 years ago, guaranteed all Indian children up to the age of 14 the right to "free and compulsory" education. Universal education, however, has yet to fully materialize, and it is estimated that it will not be realized until the year 2020.

Do we really understand the problem?

If the solutions are re-packaged with the same assumptions, how then, will they bring in any change? Doing same things again and again won’t change the outcome. We need to constantly figure out the right question and ask ourselves before we try and fit a school solution in desperation to improving outcomes, “What am I trying to improve? What is the problem?” Answer, what Enactus IIT Ropar gave was to bring together the values tradition and modern day tools and technology together that can provide world class education

Is teacher the problem?

The easiest way out to answering this tough question on quality is to put the blame on to the teacher. Teachers are at best a true reflection of our ecosystem’s standards. We have noticed that it has become a generalized statement, anyone can make, that the teacher is at fault or the teacher is not good enough. Generalization has hardly led to effective solutions. Our solution was to empower teachers so that they can foster the child’s development.

Teaching v/s Learning

School solutions today are being made with an idea to either substitute a teacher or that to reduce the teacher’s role down while teaching and learning. This approach hasn’t led to improvement in learning. There’s no study or empirical data, of improvement in learning outcomes with any such education solution, including a digital board.  So our solution was to add in the E learning so that we can pump up and enhance the teaching learning process.

So Enactus IIT Ropar took project Class-E which is a new learning system for next generation learners. It’s a new initiative a pioneering initiative which is aimed at redefining the way learning takes place inside and outside classrooms. We propose the new innovative methodology to enhance the teaching learning experience in a class.

It empowers the teachers with highly descriptive, easy to deliver and animated teaching supplements. The teachers are also benefited in a way that they can improve their teaching and learning skills by delivering our module contents and supporting our course using Computers and Information Technology.

Approach

  • First collection of about 100 comprehensive videos have been made through various online sources.
  • With talks in progress with the Principal of Satluj Public School, Ropar, we would be ready to get started, right after this Academic year.
  • Further expansion is being sought into different schools of Ropar.
  • The team is exploring all possible ways to expand the impact of this project through collaborations and setting up a sustained link between the NGOs in the field of education and the setups that could provide the content like Teach for India, AIF, GEG, Edu comp, Mindspark.

Vision

To enhance the teaching standards and the quality through smart modern electronic solutions and video and interactive, animated video content.
With a vision, to extend these services in rural areas, night teaching and all such things together in collaboration with various organization to boost and spread education
