IIT Ropar is located in the district of Rupnagar, the city formerly known as Ropar, which possesses great historical importance. The city dates back to Harappa – Mohenjo-daro civilization located east of Satluj River. Ropar is nested on the foothills of the Shivalik ranges, and the institute is very close to Sri Anandpur Sahib – the birthplace of the Khalsa panth of the Sikhs.

How to reach IIT Ropar


  • Airport to IIT Ropar: The nearest airport is the Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport, Chandigarh. The distance to IIT Ropar is 55km. The one-way trip will cost around Rs 1700 (including GST).
  • Train station to IIT Ropar: There are two train stations. One is Chandigarh station. The distance to IIT Ropar is 57km. The one-way trip will cost around Rs 1700 (including GST). The second one is Rupnagar station. The distance to IIT Ropar is 8 km. The one-way trip will cost around Rs 600 (including GST).
  • Bus station to IIT Ropar: There are bus services available from Chandigarh to IIT Ropar. The boarding point and timings are as follows:
    - 7:37 AM bus from Chandigarh to IIT Ropar, passengers can board at ISBT 43, Jalandhar Pillar.
    - 6:30 PM bus from Chandigarh to IIT Ropar will pick up passengers from ISBT 43, Ropar Pillar.

Accommodation will be arranged at Indian Institute of Technology Ropar on a shared basis at nominal rates. The available options are:
