Prof. Gagan Kumar is a Professor in the Department of Physics at the Indian Institute of Technology Ropar (IIT Ropar), India. His research focuses on terahertz optics, plasmonics, metamaterials, guided wave devices, and ultrafast spectroscopy. He received his Ph.D. in Physics from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) in 2008, after completing his M.Sc. in Physics from Kurukshetra University in 2003 and B.Sc. (Non-Medical) from D.N. College, Hisar in 2001.
Prof. Kumar has extensive international research experience, having worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Utah, USA, and as a Research Associate at the University of Maryland, College Park, USA. He began his academic career in India at IIT Guwahati in 2013 as an Assistant Professor and later served as Associate Professor and Professor before joining IIT Ropar in 2025. His research group works on advanced photonic and electromagnetic structures with applications in terahertz technology, metamaterials, and optical devices.
