This is a very special semester, as covid situation has forced us to go online for teaching. So we need to understand how things become different.
The flow chart above shows a relationship between the department, academic section, role of faculty advisor and where the IT section comes into the picture.
1. Academic Information System (AIMS) - This is where
2. Course Content Portal (Moodle - medh2, medh3, medh4) - It section populates the moodle servers with the courses being offered in this semester.
3. The AIMS portal can be accessed using url:- https://www.iitrpr.ac.in/aims/
4. For the particular semester , faculty can choose to use any LMS for their course.Currently, to the best knowledge of the IT section, faculty are either using Moodle or Google Classroom. Access to Google Classroom is through the iitrpr email id.
Please note AIMS stands for Academic Information System which is used for Pre-registration / course registration for a semester. In case students wish to Add / Drop any of the courses after the registration process, faculty advisors can look at the student performance and accept / reject the request for any further changes in the registration. At the end of registration / add / drop , we have a list of students who can credit a course.
Moodle is a Learning Management System platform for hosting course contents and any other activity in a course during the semester. However, students need to enrol in a course on Moodle using an enrolment key provided by IT section for each semester.
Yes, As shown in the figure above, AIMS has list of all students who meet all conditions to register for a course and have done the registration as per the Institute academic guidelines. The List of students enrolled in Moodle are the students who have enrolled themselves on Moodle after registering on AIMS + those who are yet to make up their mind about continuing with the course and might register on AIMS during Add / Drop. For all practical purposes, AIMS is the official record with the academic section which will be considered for awarding credits to a student in a course.
No, at the moment, it is not imported automatically into the Moodle. The faculty instrcutor have to enrol in a course on Moodle by importing the list from aims using bulk upload utility. They may enrol in more or less number of courses than they have registered for on AIMS. At the end of Add / Drop, it is the responsibility of the faculty to check that the registration list on AIMS and enrolment on Moodle match.
The students go for a self enrolment in a course on Moodle using the key pattern as coursecode_202020211 eg- ma201_202020211.
Three Moodle servers have been set for semester-1, 2020-21
medh2.iitrpr.ac.in: This hosts courses with codes for all the branches which have a pattern XX1XX, XX2XX, which means numeric 1 or 2 are preceded by two alphabets.
medh3.iitrpr.ac.in: This hosts courses with codes for all the branches which have a pattern XX3XX, which means numeric 3 is preceded by two alphabets.
medh4.iitrpr.ac.in: This hosts courses with codes for all the branches which have a pattern XX4XX or XX5XX or XX6XX or XX7XX which means numeric 4 or 5 or 6 or 7 is preceded by two alphabets.
Exceptions:
In the above situation medh4 had about 86 courses hosted on it, so we were forced to go for these exceptions for load balancing.
All Civil Engineering Courses with codes XX3XX, XX4XX, XX5XX, XX6XX, XX7XX are located on medh3.
All Chemical Engineering courses with codes XX3XX, XX4XX, XX5XX, XX6XX, XX7XX are located on medh3
All Physics Courses with codes XX3XX, XX4XX, XX5XX, XX6XX, XX7XX are located on medh3
All Chemistry Courses with codes XX3XX, XX4XX, XX5XX, XX6XX, XX7XX are located on medh3
So Civil, Chemical, Physics and Chemistry have NO courses hosted on medh4.
Note: The old URL http://www.iitrpr.ac.in/moodle/ is no longer valid for semester-1, 2020-21. Please delete this from your browser history.
Connect to any of the medh servers, if you do not remember the password: you can set the password by selecting the Forgot password option just below the login prompt. The login id is provided by the IT section. If problem persists, please send an e-mail to itteam@iitrpr.ac.in
Yes
For Faculty: Yes.
For students: No
Please note when you add a course on AIMS, it needs to be approved by the course instructor and then by batch advisor. The change will get reflected in AIMS after the process for both the approvals is over. However, you will need to enrol yourself on Moodle in the course using the enrolment key.
Contact Information:
For any problem related to access to moodle servers, AIMS, please send a mail to itteam@iitrpr.ac.in
For online courses, the process for making the course content available has three steps:
Step 1: Lecture Recording ------> Step 2: Content Hosting --------> Step 3: Content Archiving
Please refer to the attached document: (PDF)
In case you wish to install camtasia on your system. Please send a mail to itteam@iitrpr.ac.in for the key to activate camtasia.
Booking Portal:This will allow you to make a reservation for access to the lecture recording facility. Please refer to our email dated Aug 13. . Make a reservation for 2 hours if you are going to record a video for one hour duration. This assumes that the recording time is about an hour and video processing time, another hour. We recommend that recorded lecture duration should not exceed one hour.
You can go for resource reservation by using the link
Step 2:Moodle Servers:
Three moodle servers have been set:
medh2.iitrpr.ac.in (this was announced in our mail on Aug 13): This hosts course code for all the branches which have a pattern XX2XXX, which means numeric 2 is preceded by two alphabets.
medh3.iitrpr.ac.in: This hosts course code for all the branches which have a pattern XX3XXX, which means numeric 3 is preceded by two alphabets.
medh4.iitrpr.ac.in: This hosts course code for all the branches which have a pattern XX4XXX or XX5XXX or XX6XXX or XX7XXX which means numeric 4 or 5 or 6 or 7 is preceded by two alphabets.
Exceptions:
In the above situation medh4 had about 86 courses hosted on it, so we were forced to go for these exceptions for load balancing.
All Civil Engineering Courses with code XX3XXX, XX4XXX, XX5XXX, XX6XXX are on medh3.
All Chemical Engineering courses with code XX3XXX, XX4XXX, XX5XXX, XX6XXX are on medh3
All Physics Courses with code XX3XXX, XX4XXX, XX5XXX, XX6XXX are on medh3
All Chemistry Courses with code XX3XXX, XX4XXX, XX5XXX, XX6XXX are on medh3
So Civil, Chemical, Physics and Chemistry will have NO course hosted on medh4.
Experience as a student on medh2 in a course on Technologies for online learning, This course links some of the in-house recorded videos which are hosted on youtube.
Currently, all the faculty have the status of a student in a course on Technologies for online learning. You could click on the course title and view the contents. We will continue to add the contents in this course as we get the time to do so. You may see another course on this server, if you are registered as a teacher on medh2
Very useful resources for creating a course on moodle (We found these short and useful-will save you lot of time)
