About the Centre

The Centre of Drones and Autonomous Systems (CoDRAS) at IIT Ropar focuses on advanced research, training, and innovation in drone and autonomous technologies. The Centre brings together interdisciplinary expertise to develop unmanned and autonomous systems for applications such as surveillance, agriculture, infrastructure inspection, disaster management, and smart mobility. CoDRAS also emphasizes skill development through hands-on training programs and actively collaborates with government agencies to translate research into real-world solutions and support the growth of India’s drone ecosystem.

Summer Internship Programme 2026

IIT Ropar offers a prestigious Summer Internship Programme for students from recognized institutions across India. The internship is designed to provide hands-on research experience under the guidance of IIT Ropar faculty members in various departments and interdisciplinary centres.

The programme runs during 15th May to 15th July 2026 in offline (on-campus) mode. Selected interns will work under the Centre of Drones and Autonomous System (DRAS)

M.Tech. in Autonomous Systems & Drone Technology

A research-oriented program focused on advanced drone and autonomous systems.

The program provides strong foundations in sensing, control, AI, and autonomous systems, along with hands-on and research-based training. Students gain experience in integrating hardware and software components such as sensors, embedded systems, and intelligent algorithms.

It also covers advanced topics including computer vision, machine learning, and multi-agent systems, along with safety, security, and regulatory aspects. Graduates are prepared for careers in industry, research, startups, and doctoral studies across sectors like agriculture, logistics, defense, and smart cities.

Post-Graduate Diploma in Drone Technology (PGDT)

A one-year program designed to build practical skills in drone and autonomous technologies.

The program focuses on drone fundamentals including flight mechanics, sensing, navigation, and control, combined with hands-on training in building and operating drone systems.

Students are introduced to AI, computer vision, GPS/GNSS, and data analysis, along with applications in agriculture, infrastructure monitoring, logistics, surveillance, and disaster management. Emphasis is also placed on safety, regulations, and ethical practices.

Duration: 1 Year (Two Semesters)

Minor in Drones & Autonomous Systems

A structured program for undergraduate students to gain foundational knowledge and practical exposure in drone technologies.

The program introduces core concepts of drones and autonomous systems, including sensing, navigation, and control. Students gain hands-on experience in building and testing systems by integrating hardware and software components.

It also covers the use of AI, sensors, and GPS for autonomous decision-making, along with real-world applications in agriculture, disaster management, logistics, and environmental monitoring. The program emphasizes safety, regulations, and ethical considerations.

Eligibility: B.Tech. students of IIT Ropar (as per institute policy)
